Guardiola praises Ronaldo
In the summer of 2021, Man City is said to have made an effort to recruit Cristiano Ronaldo. But when CR7 was near Etihad, Man Utd stepped in and successfully brought the Portuguese superstar to Old Trafford. The Etihad team has also been linked with Harry Kane, but the English striker has agreed to stay at Tottenham Hotspur.
For the 2022 summer transfer window, Man City are linked with Erling Haaland, and coach Guardiola admits they really need a real striker.
“The club needs a striker, for sure. I don’t agree with you saying ‘we played great without a striker’ because we are winning,” Guardiola said ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby.
“When we don’t win, you say ‘we need a striker, I was naive. How does this team play without a striker?’ The club tried to sign a striker, but no one came, and in the end we adapted. We adapted to the players and never complained.
With a striker, we play in a different way. But if you don’t have one, you have to adapt to the quality you have. If not, you have to play in a completely different way from Man Utd, Southampton, Liverpool, because they play with a different philosophy. In the UK, we’re like an exception to that.”
