Under the night lights in Pune, India, the Philippines women’s team defeated Taiwan (China) on penalties with a score of 4-3, in the final quarter-finals of the 2022 Women’s Asian Cup. The match drew 1-1. after 90 minutes and extra time.

The Philippines had many chances in the first half but could not score. Their most dangerous situation came in the 37th minute, when Sarina Bolden stretched but Quinley Quezada did not take advantage of it.
However, at the beginning of the second half, the representative of Southeast Asia opened the scoring after pressing efforts. Three players Bolden, Katrina Gillou and Quezada had good coordination, before Quezada delicately touched the ball from close range, not giving goalkeeper Cheng Ssu-yu a chance to save.
The goal caused Taiwan to switch to an offensive position. With less than 10 minutes remaining in the match, Zhou Li-ping scored a beautiful goal from about 25 meters away, with a shot into the top corner of the goal, equalizing for Taiwan.
The match entered extra time. During 30 minutes, the two teams still could not get more goals when they were tired. On the penalty shootout, Taiwan’s Hsu Yi-Yun, Su Sin-Yun and Zhuo Li-Ping consecutively failed. In the Philippines, only Jessica Anne Delgado Miclat and Hali Moriah Candido Long performed unsuccessfully.
The victory over Taiwan helps the Philippines win the right to the 2022 Asian Cup semi-finals and a ticket to the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. They will face South Korea in the semifinals on February 3.
Meanwhile, Taiwan (China) will participate in the play-off round. Together with the Vietnamese and Thai women’s teams, they played in a circle, choosing the top team to win tickets to the World Cup. The remaining 2 teams will participate in the intercontinental play-off.
